Length follows the task
If someone wants to understand a single work step, a concise demonstration is helpful. For a complex decision, several steps and limitations may be necessary. Shortening the explanation shouldn't cause the most important condition to disappear.
Conversely, a long runtime doesn't automatically make content thorough. Repetitions, lengthy introductions, and unclear transitions can make even a meaningful explanation difficult to access. Therefore, check each passage for its contribution to the question.
This allows the forms to complement each other
| Brief content | More in-depth information |
|---|---|
| A common mistake | Complete instructions with prerequisites |
| A concrete answer | Detailed technical discussion |
| An application scenario | Comprehensible Product Demo |
| A Project Overview | Context for Task, Implementation, and Results |
A short piece of content shouldn't just be an empty teaser for the longer video. It can fully present a single idea and then offer a meaningful elaboration. This way, even those who don't click through will benefit.
Plan both forms before recording
Discuss which independent answers should be included. A lengthy conversation doesn't automatically provide good short introductions. Supplementary sentences or close-ups can save a lot of editing work later.
Also, pay attention to the image composition. A wide-angle conversation cannot simply be transferred to a narrow, vertical format. Choosing the length and aspect ratio are separate decisions that should nevertheless be prepared collaboratively.
Cut for meaning, not for quotas
A long interview doesn't necessarily require a fixed number of short clips. Select passages that are understandable without omitting any background information. If a statement remains accurate only within its context, that context should be preserved.
YouTube offers a built-in feature for creating shorts from suitable videos and linking them to the original. The specific requirements are described here: YouTube Help CenterThis tool does not replace editorial selection.
Compare the results appropriately
The sheer number of views for different formats is not a complete measure of performance. A detailed video can have a small but highly relevant audience. A short clip can reach more people without supporting a complex decision.
